Today, let us familiarise with the term - Predictive agronomy.
Before that we should know about the term - Agronomy, as it is new for some of us. So, what is agronomy?
In simple terms, it is the way of doing farming. It means the science of growing crops and managing the soil. It is the operations done in the field starting from land preparation to harvest.
Now, we can familiarise the term predictive agronomy. Yes, from the name some of you might have guessed, that it means prediction. That is correct. Here, we predict what is going to happen and take action before it occurs. See the image below to get an idea.

Previously, we did agriculture in a reactive way. For example when we see dry soil, we decide to irrigate but with predictive agronomy, we see soil moisture sensor data, along with weather forecast and then we decide whether to irrigate or not.
How to understand this simply. Previously, we use to see the sky and we decide whether to take an umbrella? but now, we see weather forecast along with our observation to decide whether we have to take an umbrella or not? Not only that we see at what time there is a possibility of rainfall and take the umbrella only when we plan to stay outside at that time. So, the data helps us to decide though not always accurate.
This means we move from reactive to proactive approach. This is what happens in predictive agronomy. It is proactive.
Hope you learned a new term today.
